Standard Channel Letter- Non-Illuminated or Illuminated

A channel letter is an illuminated or non-illuminated 3 dimensional sign generally seen on storefronts. A standard channel letter is fabricated from sheets of aluminum since it will not rust. A flat sheet of aluminum is typically cut on a table by a computer-controlled router. This creates the back of the channel and is the basis for the letter shape.

The sides of the channel letter sign called the returns are then formed by bending a 3 to 6-inch-wide strip of aluminum sheet around the aluminum back. The return is then flanged and clinched to the back to create a solid can in the shape of the letter. The letter can is painted and fitted with light-emitting diode (LED) modules. A translucent plastic face usually made of acrylic is cut to fit the open face of the letter can.

A trim cap border is applied to its edges which gives the letter face a finished appearance and creates a fastening surface to attach it to the letter can. Electric channel letters give the ability to attract attention both day and night.

Reverse Channel Letters- Non-Illuminated or Halo-Lit

Reverse channel letters are similar to channel letters in both design and fabrication. Much like a standard channel letter, parts of the reverse channel letter are cut and bent from sheets of aluminum then painted to the desired color. The difference between the two is the back. Reverse channel letters are covered in the back by clear acrylic, through which the lights on the inside of the letter shine.  The face can either be illuminated or a solid painted aluminum.

The light from the letters is projected onto the surface behind them, giving them a lit halo ambiance. Just like standard channel letters, electric reverse channel letters have the ability to attract attention both during the day and night.

Push Through Acrylic & Pierced Face Signs

Push through signs are an exciting way to switch it up. Shapes and letters are cut from sheet aluminum to create the sign face and then acrylic is pushed through the negative space left creating dimensional letters, logos and shapes. A waterproof aluminum cabinet is built to support the sign face and it contains LED lights that illuminate the acrylic push through components from both the face and the dimensional returns.  Often the acrylic is covered with colored or printed vinyl available in opaque or translucent. The LED light contained inside the cabinet shine through with an ambiance and looks great both day and night.  Push Through Acrylic Signs are also a good option when small type or graphics make the use of channel letters impossible.

Lighted Cabinet or Box Signs

Looking for a way to give your business a facelift or freshen up your image? Beautifully illuminate your company, business, and logo day and night using an LED lighted cabinet sign. Also commonly called “wall” or “box” signs, cabinet signs are a traditional form of illuminated signage that gives your business an extra edge after the sun goes down.

Cabinet or box signs are an effective way of utilizing a large copy area and stunning graphics. The background of the sign can be the illuminated element and the type can be either translucent (lighted) or opaque (non-lighted). Cabinet signs are strong and durable, and perfect for highlighting your business in a new light at night.

Cabinet signs are also a good option when small type or graphics make the use of channel letters impossible. They may also function as an additional sign by the road or parking area for even more visibility.

Other Channel Letter Options

Cloud Backer- Both Standard and reverse channel letters can be designed to be incorporated with a cloud backer to create very interesting eye-catching signs. The cloud allows the wiring for the sign to be hidden behind it. Also, cloud backers make a great surface for halo-lit channel letters to illuminate against.

Raceway- A Raceway (Wireway) is an Aluminum box that Channel Letters can be mounted to.  It can be painted to match the color of the building that the sign is being installed to so that it is disguised.  A raceway is a good way to fabricate a sign when trying to minimize the number of intrusions into the face of the building and provides a great way to hide wiring and power supplies.
